Poly Modeling Rock in 3D Max

This tutorial is about modeling rock in 3d studio max. Modeling is a vast category of 3d max. It has variety of modeling material we can perform with it. There are various software for modeling, animation and rendering such as Autodesk Maya, Adobe Photoshop CS etc.

How to Work

They have their own value and importance but 3d max gives better result than those soft wares. In this tutorial we shall learn how to create modeling of rock. Take a model of rock from the drive. Browse the dialogue box and choose it. Go to front view and maximize it so that we cut the edges and vertices with out difficulties. Take a line from the creating panel. Start cutting from top and make sure that the “Shift key” is pressed. With that key we can cut the object very smoothly according to its edges. Another technique to make the vertices in round shape using filet command. It serves us to selected vertices as round as it is in the actual image. When our selection will complete then go to prospective view.

Select the vertices and choose “Lathe” from modifier list. The resultant shape will be nearly alike but still there is little left to do. Right click on the object and select “edit poly”. Now we have the object in vertices and edges selected shape. Select the 4 vertices and left the next 2 and so on. Now press extrude button and in mini dialogue box put the value for extrusion.
