Rights of Neighbors (Speech)

Praiseworthy, Honorable President and Respected Audience!

“Do not throw the barks of fruits on the doorstep of your house, maybe the neighbors’ could not purchase them for their children to eat” (Al-Hadith)

A neighbor is your next of kin indeed, because an actual next of kin is that who helps in needs, who rescue you in troubles, who assist you in life, who flows tears on your grieve, who comes to rescue you in hard situation.

This concern for our neighbors can take many forms. It means to ensure that our neighbors have the basic necessities, for a Muslim should not eat if his other neighbor is going hungry. It means that Muslims should wish for their themselves.

My Respected Audience!

In Quran Allah says:

(Serve Allah, and join not any partners with him: and do good –to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, those in need, neighbors who are near, neighbors who are strangers, the companion by your side, the wayfarer [you meet], and what your right hands possess…….)

(Quran 4.36)

Relatives are those who are near to us and have relation of blood but our neighbors are also near to us actually they remain near to us more than our relatives. They help us in every field of life as our relatives they are always with us in our happiness and grieve. Neighbors are always with us from the day we born until to the end of our life. As it is said that,

Neighbor in need is a neighbor in deed.

Neighbors’ rights in Islam

Islam places great emphasis on rights of neighbor. When Hazrat Jafar Tayyar (RA) spoke to king of Ethiopia, the great Najjashi, Hazrat Jafar told him that,

Respected Audience!

“Our prophet peace be upon him asked us to help and care about our neighbors, before him we were ignorant and we never took any care of neighbors instead we often quarrel with them”

In Bukhari sharif a great Hidith has been quoted, Shaba said,

“We were afraid about the rights of neighbors because we thought that the prophet peace be upon him will ask us to give neighbors their shares from inheritances”

While preparing this essay I asked one of my Hindu friends on internet, that is there any saying of scripture in Hinduism about the rights of neighbors? She replied…No. 1 stood wonder because in contrast the Islam gives many, many rights to neighbors.

Rights-of-NeighborsPraiseworthy, honorable president!

According to the Hadith of Rasool e pak peace be upon him,

There are three degrees of neighbors,

  1. Non believer neighbor
  2. Believer neighbor
  3. Believer + relative neighbors

My dear audience!

In short words the rights of neighbors are an essential part of our society. It does not impact only onto the house neighbors but also it also means the neighbors of your street, city, country, nation and etc.

So we should look upon their lives and always care about their necessities whether they are in need or not. It’s not only our duty as a Muslim but also it’s a beautiful human specialty which cannot be seen in animals anywhere.
