NURBS Modeling Introduction Part 1

The development of NURBS was an important step forward in 3d Computer graphics modeling. In this 3d modeling class video tutorial you will learn all about the NURBS 3d modeling in 3d animation and modeling software Autodesk Maya. In this lesson you will learn what are the tools and commands included in NURBS 3d modeling, how to draw NURBS surfaces.

NURBS modeling is actually 3d modeling of object using non-uniform or uniform part of the surface geometry of the 3d model it is totally user friendly way of the 3d modeling in computer graphic. Moreover we can model the 3d models with 2d curves and lines in NURBS modeling e.g. you draw curve and then give the pattern curve in which you determine the pattern for the first curve to be modeled and that’s it you joint these curve from one’s end and apply boundary, loft or extrude commands and 3d modeling and animation software here is Maya model 3d surface by extended the first curve in the shape of second one. You will learn later about this 3d modeling in car modeling lessons. Here now we introduce NURBS modeling commands and tool for creating NURBS surfaces.

NURBS primitives:

NURBS primitives are basic 3d object like Sphere, Cube, Cylinder, Plane, Cone and etc. these primitives are present in Create menus under name of NURBS. These basic objects have NURBS surfaces and when you right click on any of the primitive when created in the workspace you get commands like Control vertex, Edit point, Hulls, Isopalms, Surface patch etc. these commands indicate that these surfaces NURBS and in Polygon surface these commands are replaced by Face, edge and vertex.

More NURBS objects:

In Create menu of the main menus we have options like Create CV Curve tool, Create EP curve tool, pencil tool and Create arch tool. These tools enable us to create 2d curves which can further be modeled into 3d models with commands as mentioned earlier.
