Video-Trax Editor Nonlinear Animation in Maya

This is 3d animation tutorial video about how to edit 3d animation in 3d animation and modeling software Maya. You will learn about Maya Trax editor for 3d animation editing. It is one of the best features of the 3d animation in 3d modeling and animation software Autodesk Maya. It is technique in which you can edit or modify your 3d animation without effecting the original 3d animation. Maya Trax editor is very important cinematographic and film making tool. For example you have 3d animation sequences two or more and you have another file with different music and you want to blend these 3d animation files with music file and make it one part 3d animation, then Maya Trax editor will help you to do so and also it helps in non-linear 3d animation. In this 3d animation tutorial you will learn basics of using the Maya Trax editor and you will learn how Trax editor helps for modifying or editing 3d animation sequences in 3d modeling and animation software Maya. First of all learn how to open the Trax editor.

  1. Open the airplane 3d model in Maya and move it -25 on x-axis from channel box in view port where you can see it from its side’s views.
  2. Then click on animation preferences and then in time slider option increase the number of frame to 240 frames so that you have animation of 10 seconds with 24 frames/sec. speed click on save option.
  3. Then click on the Panels menu at the top of workspace menus under shelf tabs’ tools > select Persp/Trax/Outliner in the Saved layouts option.
  4. In the Trax editor menu click on Display and make sure that display DAG objects only is unmarked. Then in the Trax editor menus click on Show and then in the Objects option click on Clips option.
  5. You object is at -25 on x-axis, create 3d animation of this airplane.
  6. Move time slider to frame one and press ‘S’ key to set the time key at this frame.
  7. Move time slider to last frame ‘240’ and then move it to +25 on x-axis and again press ‘S’ to set the time key at this frame. Play you animation; you will see the animation playing.
  8. Now with airplane still selected, click on create menu and click animation option box reset the settings in the view menu and click on create clip. Then with the airplane selected click on ‘load the select character icon. Then in the Trax menu click on view and then frame all option.
  9. Now you can create sequence of animation clips using Trax Editor.
