Video-Assigning Material to Cartoon Rocket in Maya

Welcome to Assigning Material to Cartoon Rocket in Maya here in this 3d modeling lesson you will learn how to apply color and how to apply material and texture using Hypershade in 3d modeling and animation software Maya. What is material in 3d modeling?
Material in 3d software means that type of surface which you want to assign on you model if want model to look like non reflective material surface like wall of bricks, earth etc. then you will need Lambert material, if you want to make you model look like shiny material then you will assign Blinn material which creates reflective material 3d effects, and if you want you model to look like glassy object then you have to assign Phong material. There are other types of materials also but these three are common and very important in modeling and animation. Here you will learn how to assign material to cockpit and how to assign material to the nozzle and fins of the cartoonic rocket using Hypershade?

    Steps:

  1. Select the cockpit area, open Hypershade from Windows, the select Phong material from Create Maya Nodes as your Cockpit should be transparent like glass.
  2. Then select the open the attributes of the Phong material in the Channel box and click on the default color and give dark blue color, then increase its transparency from transparent attribute. Press ‘6’ for texture mode to see the results.
  3. Do the same for nozzle and the fins, you can texture them differently; as texturing of fins can be done using Ramp rendering node, click on checker box in front of color option and then select Ramp rendering node select the colors you like.
