Learning 3d Modeling and Character Setup in Maya 2011 Part 1

First of all we shall import reference image of the 3d human head character then according to these orthographic images we shall model human head in 3d modeling animation software Maya. But make sure that you should have already orthographic image of front and side view of Human face even you own image can be used or you can download from Google.

Modeling Steps:

  1. Create a polygon plane in 3d modeling and animation software Maya 2011, using rotate tool rotate this plane on x-axis using red manipulating handle or put value of 90 in rotate-x in the channel box (press ctrl + A once for opening channel box).

  2. Hit 5 for shaded mode, the right click on plane and select ‘assign favorite material’ select ‘Lambert’ then in the attribute editor click on option box in front of color option, choose ‘File’ and then browse for the 2d image of front side of the human face. Hit 6 key to see the results.

  3. Then duplicate this plane by pressing ctrl + d, rotate the duplicated plane on y-axis or put value of 90 in rotate-y option of the attribute editor.

  4. Again right click on the plane and select assign favorite material and select the color option box then click on File icon and this time browse for the side view image of the face. Hit 6 to see the result. Now using move tool you have to move these two orthographic images at right place so that when you are in side view you can see side pose of the face and when you are in front view you can see front pose.
