Split polygon tool:

head-modeling-maya-2011It is 3d modeling polygon tool option which enables you to edit more faces, edges or vertices in you polygon. It is like edge loop tool but the difference is that it is more critical for editing faces it can be used for any faces in any direction along any axis whereas edge loop splits the polygon along one axis. It is located in ‘Edit Mesh’ menu. Once you grab this tool then click two different points where you want to add an edge. Here in this 3d modeling lesson we shall use this tool for modeling lips and nose.

Steps:
This free tutorial video lesson of 3d modeling is related to the previous parts so watch those parts first if you are new visitor.
Go to front view and align the horizontal edge loop of the lip in such a way that it is perfectly along the center of the lips, and then create another edge loop and align it along the previous one.
Go to edit mesh and click on the polygon split tool and then setup more edge and faces for modeling lips and nose.
