NURBS 3d modeling means modeling of the 3d object with curves, non-uniform geometric close shapes and line etc. Here learn NURBS 3d modeling basics in this NURBS 3d modeling class lesson which is about how to model car in 3d modeling animation software Autodesk Maya using basic NURBS 3d modeling tools and commands. In this 3d modeling lesson you will learn how to use the loft commands for modeling roof of a car then how to make the car roof smooth by using Rebuild tool in 3d software Maya. This NURBS 3d modeling and you will learn how CV are modeled to 3d car in Maya using Loft tool and Boundary tool. Loft tool is the NURBS 3d modeling tool which create Roof or covering like 3d surface from curves and Rebuild tool as clear from it is used to rebuild 3d surfaces once you have added some curve to 3d models’ topology after using one building tool like Boundary or Loft tool etc.

    Steps:

  1. Select the upper most curve of the back panel and then press ‘ctrl + d’ for duplicating it and duplicate its 8 to 10 copies and then adjust them using rotate tool, scale tool and move tool. Move one curve to front upper most end of the wind screen and adjust other between this curve and back panel of 3d car.
  2. Select all the CV curves and then go to Surfaces menu and click on the Loft tool to model roof.
  3. If there are some dents and you want to remove them right click on roof and select Isopalm and then drag each isopalm to create additional isopalm but these are not real isopalm, these are potential isopalm for creating new isopalms at their sites for that purpose to Edit NURBS and click on Inset Isopalm. Then select the surface and go to Edit NURBS and click on Rebuild tool and increase U and V value to 12 each and click rebuild to see the results.
  4. For coloring right click and in Assign new material click on the assign Existing material to color the roof like other parts are colored.
